Airbus: contract with UK Ministry of Defence
(CercleFinance.com) - Airbus has signed a contract with the UK Ministry of Defence to supply next-generation modems for the country's Skynet satellite communications constellation.
The new modems will support the Skynet 5 satellites and the yet-to-be-launched Skynet 6A satellite, and offer several significant capability enhancements.
The FPMA modem's advanced Software Defined Radio (SDR) system combines several techniques to provide a highly resilient solution, and is capable of hosting multiple waveforms. It will provide safe and secure Internet Protocol (IP) communications over all commonly used frequency bands, including X-band.
The Ministry of Defense said that, nuilding on their long tradition, this new modem produced by Airbus will ensure that the Skynet system will continue to provide world-class military satellite communications to front-line commands and our operational personnel deployed around the world.
