Rio Tinto: launches center for sustainable materials
(CercleFinance.com) - Rio Tinto announces the creation, with Imperial College London, of the 'Rio Tinto Centre for Future Materials', supported by an investment of $150 million over 10 years.
The center aims to develop sustainable techniques for sourcing, processing and recycling the materials needed for the energy transition.
Supported by international partnerships, it will initially focus on solving the 'copper challenge' essential to electrification.
Jakob Stausholm, CEO of Rio Tinto, stressed the importance of academic and industrial collaboration in tackling 'the complex challenges of the energy transition'.
