Philips: partnership in AI-enhanced MRI with the Mayo Clinic
(CercleFinance.com) - Philips announced Tuesday that it has signed a collaboration agreement with the Mayo Clinic to advance research in heart attack diagnostics using AI-based tools.
Through this partnership, Philips and the Mayo Clinic say they want to explore the potential of AI models to improve the efficiency of cardiac MRI procedures and lighten the workload of radiologists.
In a press release, the Dutch healthcare equipment manufacturer points out that heart disease is the leading cause of death worldwide, accounting for 13% of all deaths.
The group adds that their detection is often based on MRI, an expensive and often inaccessible technology for patients, who are also likely to find themselves in a stressful situation given that the examination, which takes place in a chamber, can sometimes last over an hour and lead to a feeling of claustrophobia.
By relying on artificial intelligence during all stages of the MRI, Philips explains that it aims not only to make the patient's experience more pleasant, but also to improve the efficiency of procedures and provide more detailed data.
