Spie: 1st CCU installation in the world for a cement plant
(CercleFinance.com) - Spie has announced the construction, on behalf of Linde Engineering, of the world's first carbon capture and utilization (CCU) plant for the cement industry, located at the Lengfurt cement plant of Heidelberg Materials, Germany.
Commissioning is scheduled for 2025, with a capture capacity of 70,000 tonnes of CO2 per year. The high-purity captured CO2 can be used in the chemical and food industries, according to Spie.
This installation marks a major step forward in the decarbonization of the cement industry, which is a major CO2 emitter, by enabling the CO2 generated during combustion to be reused.
Spie is responsible for pre-dressing the columns, manufacturing the pipes, erecting the steel structure and various equipment installations. The first phase of installation began in September.
