TotalEnergies: NEP launches its 1st project in the UK

(CercleFinance.com) - Northern Endurance Partnership (NEP) announces the closing of its financing, enabling construction of the first CCS project in the UK.
NEP is a pioneering project that will transport and store CO2.

NEP, in which TotalEnergies holds a 10% stake, will store up to 4 million tonnes of CO2 per year.

NEP's infrastructure will initially collect and store CO2 from three industrial projects in the Teesside region (NZT Power, H2Teesside and Teesside Hydrogen CO2 Capture).

They include an onshore CO2 collection network, compression facilities and a 145 km offshore pipeline to subsea facilities for injecting CO2 into the Endurance saline aquifer, located around 1,000 meters below the seabed.

Construction of this infrastructure is due to start in mid-2025, with first CO2 storage planned for 2028.

' We are delighted to be involved in this major milestone for the development of CCS in the UK. NEP is a pioneering project that will transport and store CO2 from one of the UK's largest industrial regions. Our participation in NEP contributes to TotalEnergies' objective of developing significant CO2 storage capacity in the North Sea, where we can capitalize on our expertise in operations and geosciences', said Arnaud Le Foll, New Business Director - Carbon Neutrality at TotalEnergies.
