Eramet: production start-up at Argentine plant
(CercleFinance.com) - Eramet announces the first production of lithium carbonate from its recently commissioned direct extraction plant (DLE) in Centenario, Salta province, Argentina, three years after construction began.
This is the first plant to implement Eramet's DLE technology on an industrial scale, a technology that produces a sustainable, high-performance lithium carbonate suitable for electric vehicle batteries.
The Centenario plant is designed to extract and produce 24,000 tonnes per year of battery-grade lithium carbonate and, at full capacity, is expected to be in the top quartile of the lithium industry's cost curve.
On 24 October, Eramet announced that it had regained full ownership of its flagship lithium asset, by buying out its partner's 49.9% stake in their joint venture Eramine, which owns the entire Centenario plant.
