Deezer: copyright remuneration updated
(CercleFinance.com) - Deezer announced on Wednesday that it had joined forces with Sacem to adopt a redistribution model designed to ensure fairer remuneration of authors' rights.
The online music specialist points out that this artist-centric payment system (ACPS) represents the first update since the arrival of streaming over fifteen years ago.
Under this so-called "artist-centric" model, a greater share of what subscribers pay is to go back to the artists.
At the same time, songs by artists with at least 1.000 listens from 500 different subscribers each month are paid twice as much per stream as artists who do not reach this target.
Deezer also plans to clean up its catalog and remove fraudulent content, noise and tracks that have not been listened to for 12 months, in order to mechanically increase the artists' market share.
In a press release, Deezer and Sacem express their conviction that this development will inspire other players in the music industry to implement a more sustainable and equitable ecosystem for creators.
