GM: multi-billion dollar contract with Vianode

(CercleFinance.com) - Vianode announced on Wednesday that it had signed an agreement worth an estimated 'several billion dollars' with General Motors, to which it will supply synthetic graphite for electric vehicle batteries.

The Norwegian group, which was founded in 2021 and specializes in the production of battery materials, explains that it intends to supply GM from its North American plant, scheduled to come on stream by 2027.

In a press release, Vianode states that its synthetic graphite will be destined for Ultium Cells, the battery joint venture that GM has set up with LG Energy Solution, but that it could also be used by other subsidiaries of the American automotive group.

This announcement comes at a time when Vianode has set itself the target of powering, with its advanced materials, the production of some three million electric vehicles a year by 2030.

After conducting a pilot project in Kristiansand in 2021, the company opened a technology center in the same city in 2022, a step followed by the industrial start-up of the Heroya site, also based in Norway, last year.
