BAE Systems: develops underwater drones

(CercleFinance.com) - The UK has announced that the aerial drone war visible in Ukraine is now spreading under the seas, notably with the likely use of Russian autonomous submarines to monitor and potentially sabotage critical undersea cables off its coast.


In response to this threat, senior military officials attended the presentation of Herne, a British autonomous submarine developed by BAE Systems.

Capable of monitoring the seabed for up to two months or remaining inactive for nine months, Herne will protect vital infrastructure, such as data cables and pipelines.

This development is part of a technological race between the UK and countries such as Russia and China.
