Telefonica: new Chairman of Board of Directors
(CercleFinance.com) - On Monday Telefonica group announced the appointment of Marc Murtra as the new Chairman of its Board of Directors, succeeding José María Álvarez-Pallete.
The telecommunications operator justifies this change by the recent evolution of its shareholding structure, with the Spanish State now holding 10% of its capital.
The group also refers to the desire expressed by some of its shareholders to renew the chairmanship of the Board.
A graduate of the Polytechnic University of Catalonia and holder of an MBA from New York University's Leonard School of Business, Marc Murtra began his career as an engineer in the nuclear sector, before moving on to the new technologies sector and then to public administration.
He was notably cabinet director at the Spanish Ministry of Industry, Trade and Tourism.
He also teaches business administration and economics at Pompeu Fabra University.
