Euronext: new takeover of electricity specialist

(CercleFinance.com) - Euronext announced Tuesday that it has signed a binding agreement to acquire Nasdaq's Nordic electricity futures business.

Under the terms of the agreement, trading in electricity derivatives currently carried out on Nasdaq will be operated by Euronext Amsterdam, with clearing provided by Euronext Clearing.

Euronext says the deal is part of its 'Innovate for Growth 2027' strategic plan, which calls for an acceleration in the electricity futures business following the takeover of 'Nord Pool' completed in 2019.

The exchange operator, which has not disclosed the terms of the transaction, simply states that it will be financed from its available cash.

Euronext and Nasdaq say they want to work towards a "smooth transition", with the aim of migrating into the platform in H1 2026.

Following this announcement, Euronext shares gained 1.3% on Tuesday morning on the Paris Bourse, compared with a decline of 0.1%, bringing their increase over the past 12 months to over 35%.
