Rio Tinto: partnership with Hydro for CO2 capture

(CercleFinance.com) - Rio Tinto announces that, in partnership with Hydro, it will invest around $45 million over five years to evaluate and develop carbon capture technologies suitable for aluminum smelters.


The agreement includes the sharing of certain data and tests, ranging from laboratory tests to large-scale pilot trials.

The collaboration will focus on Rio Tinto's facilities in Europe and Hydro's in Norway, while maintaining both companies' individual efforts towards decarbonization.

The initiative aims to accelerate the development of viable solutions to reduce CO2 emissions from the electrolysis process, thus contributing to the transition to carbon-free aluminum production.
