Continental: subsidiary ContiTech to close four sites
(CercleFinance.com) - ContiTech, Continental's plastics technology division, announced on Thursday its intention to close four production sites, a decision that is expected to affect around 580 jobs.
The company, which produces technical elastomer articles, justifies these measures by the "continuous" drop in demand in certain sectors, including the automotive and mining industries.
ContiTech, which manufactures materials based on rubber as well as metal and fabrics, plans to wind down operations at its plants in Bad Blankenburg (Thuringia), Stolzenau (Lower Saxony) and Moers (North Rhine-Westphalia).
The Conti subsidiary also plans to cease production at its adjacent sites in Frohburg and Geithain (Saxony).
Part of production at the Hanover-Vahrenwald plant is scheduled to cease in the first half of 2026, and will be transferred to the Jivin plant (Czech Republic).
Finally, automotive materials manufacturing activities are to be scaled back at the Hamburg site.
