Thales: contract for LBRM systems in India

(CercleFinance.com) - Thales announces that it has signed a contract with Bharat Dynamics Ltd (BDL) for the initial supply of LBRM (Laser Beam Riding ManPad) man-portable air defense systems to enhance India's air defense capabilities.


The LBRM missiles, 60% of which will be produced in India, are a short-range, man-portable air defense system optimised to counter a range of threats, including ground attack aircraft, pop-up attack helicopters and unmanned aerial vehicles (UAVs).

This contract is the first major agreement since the implementation of a defense partnership with the UK. It will also increase production capacity at the Thales site in Belfast, which designs the LBRM system.
