Safran: defense partnership with India's Bharat
(CercleFinance.com) - Safran announced Tuesday that it has signed a defense partnership with India's Bharat Electronics group, which will produce its Hammer combat systems locally.
In a press release, the two groups explain that they intend to create an Indian joint venture specializing in the manufacture, customization, marketing and maintenance of this precision ground-to-air equipment.
The agreement, which includes technology transfer, covers local production of these products, enabling India to reduce its dependence on exports, in line with the government's stated objectives.
Safran and Bharat also intend to build, as part of their partnership, a center of excellence aimed at strengthening Indian capabilities in the defense business.
The agreement was formalized on Tuesday at the AeroIndia trade show, currently taking place in Bangalore.
