RWE: opens one of the world's largest battery storage facilities
(CercleFinance.com) - RWE has commissioned one of Germany's largest battery storage systems at the Group's Hamm and Neurath sites, with a total capacity of 220 megawatts (MW).
The system contributes to the stabilization of the electricity grid, particularly through balancing energy markets. The storage system comprises 690 battery cabinets with eight battery modules each, with a capacity of 140 MW (151 MWh) at Hamm (commissioned in December) and 80 MW (84 MWh) at Grevenbroich-Neurath. Nikolaus Valerius, CEO of RWE Generation: 'With the Neurath and Hamm storage plants, we are commissioning one of the largest battery systems in Germany. Our batteries are a perfect complement to the expansion of renewable energies, which requires a growing number of large-scale energy storage systems.
